These remote, uninhabited islands are one of Portugal\u2019s most precious ecological treasures, offering a glimpse of nature at its purest.<\/p>\n

For centuries, these islands were little more than passing points occasionally used by navigators and fishermen. The absence of fresh water, the arid soil and their extreme isolation prevented any permanent settlement. Today, those same conditions are precisely what make them unique.<\/p>\n
