Founded in 1850 by João Gonçalves Henriques, Henriques & Henriques (H&H) has deep roots in the winemaking tradition of Câmara de Lobos, Madeira.
The family legacy was expanded in 1912 when João's sons, Francisco Eduardo and João Joaquim, established the partnership that gave the company its name. Since then, H&H has remained committed to the quality and tradition of Madeira wine, producing prestigious wines that are internationally recognized. Following the passing of João Joaquim in 1968, the company passed into the hands of three loyal employees, ensuring the continuity of this centuries-old story.
H&H stands out as one of the few Madeira wine producers to own its own vineyards, providing full control over production. At the Quinta Grande estate, the company cultivates the Verdelho grape variety on terraces that range from 350m to 750m in altitude, covering more than 10 hectares. This privileged location, set along the mountain slopes, provides the ideal conditions for producing high-quality wines. Additionally, in the valley of Sítio das Preces in Câmara de Lobos, H&H cultivates the rare Terrantez grape variety on 1.3 hectares, contributing to the preservation of this traditional variety.
H&H's reputation has been built on the consistency of its blended wines, which are recognized across different categories and frequently awarded at international competitions. Their "Colheita" wines are also known for their excellence, earning top honours worldwide. The "Garrafeiras", which include wines dating back to the 19th and 20th centuries, are true treasures, with some having been auctioned at prestigious international auction houses. These rare wines, now in the possession of collectors around the world, represent the historical and oenological value of H&H, perpetuating its heritage in the universe of Madeira wine.
