Paúl da Serra, Madeira’s largest plateau, offers a serene and vast landscape where nature reigns supreme, providing trails and views that captivate visitors.

Paúl da Serra is Madeira’s largest plateau and one of its most unique landscapes. Located at over 1,500 meters above sea level, this plateau stretches for about 24 km², offering a stark contrast to the steep slopes and deep valleys that characterize the rest of the island. Here, the vegetation is lower, and the climate is cooler, creating a unique environment that invites contemplation and exploration. Paúl da Serra is also the starting point for some of the island’s most spectacular trails, winding through the Laurissilva forest, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This area is perfect for hiking and walking, providing panoramic views over Madeira and the Atlantic Ocean, as well as a tranquility that contrasts with the exuberance of the island’s lower regions.
